Gorgeous Thanksgiving Table Decorations Inspired by Nature


Thanksgiving Day is a holiday most typically associated with the USA and Canada.  The observance of Thanksgiving has its historic origins in both religious and cultural traditions.  It is a feast also associated with the end of harvest time. These days, Thanksgiving is mainly enjoyed as a secular holiday and a chance to get together with family and close friends.  It is a celebration which centers around the enjoying the sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner so many of the ideas that follow are connected to Thanksgiving Table Decorations in seasonal style.

The fourth Thursday in November dictates the Thanksgiving date in America which is moving into the short days and chilly winter season. For Canada it is celebrated slightly earlier during the second week in October.  So it is natural that the influence of fall/autumn and winter can be seen in these seasonally inspired table ornaments.

Inventive Seasonal Thanksgiving Table Decorations


When it comes to simple Thanksgiving table decorations, vintage wooden sewing spools make a fantastic and unusual base to display wintry dried leaves or branches.  If you want to add fresh flowers you would need to find spools with a centre large enough to hold a test tube with water in to keep the display from drooping

Your guests will be delighted to see these delicate and original Thanksgiving table decorations on their plates.  Each one is in fact a small gift in a box. These tiny offerings are actually acorn cups that have been turned into clever mini-candles.  Each acorn cup is filled with melted candle wax then a short wick is inserted into the wax before it sets. To make a complete candle set place the tiny candles in a small box along with some matches, in a wood box. To create the match striker stick a strip of sandpaper along one side. The final flourish is to personalize each box lid using a rubber stamp and a handwritten message. Rubber stamps can be sourced at or from craft suppliers or leading stationers.

This lovely ‘fallen leaves’ runner is so simple to make and will make the perfect base for your other Thanksgiving table decorations.  The one illustrated here is made from tasteful blue and green felt.  You could of course adapt the colors to suit your own personalized table display.  To create this runner you will need to download and print a leaf template from the internet.  Use this basic shape to draw guidelines onto your felt and then cut them out. You will need enough felt leaves to traverse your table.  Then simply tack them together in a casual overlapping arrangement. Et voila!

This is the perfect Thanksgiving table runner which will also protect your table against hot plates and food servers. Another fine touch shown here is the use of a delicate feather to decorate each place card.  With a little crafting the feather can become a beautiful brooch.  On the back of each feather attach a simple bar pin using a hot glue gun.  The bar pins are inexpensive and available on line or from art and craft suppliers.
